The player who cost £59.7 million, a British transfer record, was blasted by the Nanchester United manager after a poor showing from the substitute bench during their 2-1 win away against Liverpool.
In van Gaal’s post match interview, he was thought to be talking about Di Maria when he said, “When we don’t have the ball, we don’t press the opponent with the ball and that was different.”
The man who has previously played for Real Madrid was apparently angered at his manager’s negativity towards his performance, putting more question marks next to his Old Trafford future following a sub-standard debut season for the Red Devils.
Di Maris has only netted once after scoring three in his first five games and recently has been the first name to be axed for an early substitute in a game. The winger also received a red from Michael Oliver in the FA Cup quarter final defeat against Arsenal at Old Trafford, after grabbing the referee.
Despite the uncertainty, sources close to the forward maintain he is determined to turn his United damp squib around.
