The 31-year-old Sweden international arrives as cover for the suspended Mathieu Flamini and injured Aaron Ramsey, who will be out for the next six weeks.
Kallstrom is an experienced playmaker with 108 caps for Sweden.
He has played in four major tournaments with Swede and spent eight years in Ligue 1 with Rennes and Lyon, winning the league twice and helping Lyon the semi-final of the Champions League in 2009/10, before moving to Russia.
Gunners boss Arssne Wenger told the club’s official website: “Kim Kallstrom is a hugely-experienced player. He is a midfielder with proven quality at both club and international level. We welcome Kim to Arsenal.”
Kallstrom added: “Arsenal is an amazing club with a lot of great players and a coach who has done really well here for a long time. I am so pleased to come here to learn as much as possible. I’m here to do my best for Arsenal and to help out the team, so we can achieve good results for the last part of the season.”
Kallstrom’s last league start for Spartak was 82 days ago against Zenit St. Petersburg in a 4-2 win in the Russian Premier League
