Long-term Arsenal target Julian Draxler has left Schalke to join Wolfsburg, the Bundesliga club has announced.
Wolfsburg broke its transfer record to sign Draxler on the final day of the European summer window, with The Guardian reporting the club paid £25.5m to snare the signature of the 21-year-old.
The German international had been heavily linked with a number of top European clubs including Arsenal and Juventus, however, Wolfsburg splashed the cash following the departures of Kevin de Bruyne and Ivan Perisic to Manchester City and Inter Milan respectively.
Draxler has starred for Schalke since making his debut for the club in 2011, scoring 18 goals in 118 Bundesliga appearances for the Gelsenkirchen-based side.
The youngster is expected to fill the hole left by De Bruyne’s departure.
Wolfsburg also announced it has signed Bayern Munich defender Dante on a three-year deal, while attacking midfielder Aaron Hunt has left the club to join Hamburg.
