The deal will also see Blues wide man Mohamed Salah move in the opposite direction after he failed to recapture the form that prompted Jose Mourinho to bring him to the club a year ago.
Chelsea have been admirers of the Colombian international since he helped his country to the quarter-finals of the World Cup last summer, and have been keeping a close watch on his ever since.
However, a move to bring him to Stamford Bridge this month looked have to bottomed out after being Mourinho was told that he would need to offload either Salah or Andre Schurrle to make room for him within the squad.
But with the Egyptian moving to Florence, the move has been given the green light and he travelled to London to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms.
The signing of Cuadrado has also signaled the end of Schurrle’s career in the Premier League, with the 24-year-old returning to the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg.
