After allowing Fernando Torres to leave for AC Milan on-loan on Friday, manager Jose Mourinho was left with just two first team No.9s in Diego Costa and Didier Drogba.
That is why the 51-year-old has entered the transfer market once again and has come away with Remy, with the France international moving for his release clause of £8.5m.
The forward had previously been on the verge of joining Liverpool, but the Reds axed the deal after discovering the Frenchman had a heart condition during his medical.
However, this clearly doesn’t bother the West London outfit as Remy becomes their fifth major signing of the window along with Costa, Drogba, Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis.
The former Olympique Marseille star will now be competing with the former two for a place in attack, although usurping the Spain international could prove tricky due to his fine form since a £32m switch from Atletico Madrid.
Costa has netted four Premier League goals in three matches so far and is being tipped to be named the August Player of the Month.
Remy does have credentials when it comes to the English top tier though, having scored 20 goals in 42 appearances for the Hoops and Newcastle United since he first arrived in the country in January 2013.
