Chelsea have reached an agreement with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa for £32m, reports the club’s official website.
“Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with Atlético Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa, with Chelsea meeting the buy-out clause for the Spanish international,” read a statement.
The 25-year-old forward scored 36 goals in all competitions last season – helping Diego Simeone’s side win La Liga, and reach the final of the Champions League as well.
Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea side badly needed a striker last term, with Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres nowhere near the players they once were, and Demba Ba below the level required.
With Cesc Fabregas having signed already, the Blues look like they’re strengthening to make a serious Premier League title challenge in 2014/15.
