Former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o has put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Everton, and has become the Toffee’s fifth major summer signing.
The 33-year-old was released by Chelsea at the end of last season, but now joins another former Blue – Romelu Lukaku – as well as Gareth Barry, Muhamed Besic and Christian Atsu at Goodison Park.
Everton boss Roberto Martinez said of Eto’o: “I met him and we had a very good chat. I was impressed about the hunger he still has. We are very excited and I think Everton is the perfect home for him.”
Eto’o’s contract with Chelsea expired at the start of July and he was not offered fresh terms by Blues boss Jose Mourinho. Liverpool were in the running to sign him but instead opted for Mario Balotelli, leaving Martinez free to bring Eto’o to Goodison Park.
The Cameroonian international began his professional career at Real Madrid before making his name with Real Mallorca. He won major honours with Barcelona and Inter Milan before a short spell in Russia.
He joined Chelsea last summer, scoring 12 goals in 34 appearances – taking his career tally to an impressive 303 in 608, before making the switch to Everton.
