The 28-year-old has had limited opportunities at Goodison Park this season under manager Roberto Martinez and has made just 11 appearances in all competitions and scored two goals.
Jelavic comes into a Tigers side hoping to avoid relegation after earning promotion from the Championship last year.
The Yorkshire team currently reside in 10th position with 23 points from their first 21 games, although they are still only five points clear of the relegation zone.
Jelavic was signed by David Moyes in January 2012 from Scottish side Rangers for £5.5m and the Croatian made an immediate impact on Merseyside.
In the forward’s first six months the Croatia international netted nine goals in 13 league games, although struggled the following campaign with just seven strikes all term.
In total Jelavic netted 21 times in 69 appearances for the Toffees and also has five goals from 30 caps on the international stage.
The attacker will now be competing with the likes of Danny Graham and Yannick Sagbo at the KC Stadium and is clearly relishing the opportunity.
