Liverpool have officially agreed a deal to sign England right-back Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton for £12.5m, according to a very respectable source.
The Liverpool Echo claim Clyne will become the sixth summer signing to join the Reds, after James Milner, Adam Bogdan, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino.
Clyne is currently on holiday, but he will return to Britain next week in time to complete a medical at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground.
It is claimed that Clyne will sign a five-year contract with the Reds, who used Emre Can, Glen Johnson and Javier Manquillo at right-back last season.
Clyne, who started 35 Premier League games for the Saints last term, has been capped five time by England at senior level.
Liverpool signing Clyne comes as another blow to rivals Manchester United, who had been linked with the player persistently since the end of last season.
United were also said to be keen on Brazil attacking midfielder Firmino, who agreed a £29m switch to Anfield on Wednesday.
