Liverpool have completed the signing of Benfica’s 20-year-old midfielder Lazar Markovic, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Reds just sold their best player Luis Suarez to Barcelona, but have softened the blow by announcing the arrival of the young Serbian.
Markovic arrived at Benfica last summer from Partizan, and immediately impressed in both the Portuguese league and in Europe.
In total, he made 26 starts, 13 appearances from the bench, and notched six goals. Markovic is most comfortable on the right of an attacking front three, but he’s equally adept on the opposite flank or in the hole behind the striker.
Markovic prides himself on his acceleration, and his technical ability with the ball at his feet. Not only can he dribble past opponents, but he has the vision and creative spark to thread intricate through-balls to onrushing teammates.
With Coutinho, Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana, Liverpool now have a number of exciting attacking midfield options, although it remains to be seen whether they’ll provide enough service to Daniel Sturridge to cover for the absence of Suarez.
