Loic Remy has completed his move from Queens Park Rangers to Chelsea, after the Blues triggered the player’s £8.5m release clause on Saturday.
The move is expected to be officially confirmed later today, with the Daily Mail insisting that the deal has been done, with the French international agreeing on a contract worth £80,000-per-week.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho needed another striker after allowing Fernando Torres to join AC Milan, and moved quickly to seal a deal for the 27-year-old, who scored 14 goals while on loan at Newcastle United last season.
Harry Redknapp left Remy out of his squad to face Sunderland on Saturday afternoon, despite the player offering to play, allowing him to negotiated terms over his switch to Stamford Bridge.
Earlier this summer, Arsenal were interested in signing the Frenchman, but Arsene Wenger was turned off by the wages the player was seeking. Liverpool came close to signing Remy, but the player then failed his medical.
Remy’s release clause was set at £8.5m for any team in the Champions League, but at £11m for sides in the top six and £15m for any other club.
