The Japanese international has struggled to establish himself at United in the two years he has been at Old Trafford and will now move back to Dortmund, a club that he helped win two Bundesliga titles before his transfer to the Red Devils.
Kagawa became a fan favourite at Dortmund and will almost certainly be popular addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The attacking midfielder’s time at Old Trafford was not a particularly happy one. He was rarely played in his favoured number 10 position and was often pushed out wide by previous managers Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes.
His departure from Manchester has been on the cards since current United boss Louis van Gaal said that Kagawa had struggled with his desire to turn the Japanese international into a central midfielder.
Klopp has always stated his desire to have Kagawa back at Dortmund and routinely criticised United’s management for not using him in the correct position.
Kagawa can now almost certainly look forward to playing in his favoured position back at a club who appreciate his talents.
