Liverpool have officially made AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli their ninth summer signing, with the Italian moving to Anfield in a £16m move earlier today.
The controversial Italian forward will wear his favoured number 45 shirt, and will be at the Etihad Stadium this evening to watch his new team face his former employees Manchester City.
Balotelli joins Liverpool after a year-and-a-half with Milan, where he scored 30 goals in 54 appearances. The 24-year-old, who has also scored 13 goals in 33 appearances at international level, will help fill the void left by the departure of Luis Suarez earlier this summer.
He could well prove the final incoming transfer at Liverpool this summer, with his signing following those of Southampton trio Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren, Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can, Benfica winger Lazar Markovic, Lille forward Divock Origi, and young full-back’s Javier Manquillo and Alberto Moreno.
Balotelli said of his move: “I’m very happy. We’ve been talking about coming here and now I’m happy to be here.
“Liverpool are one of the best teams here in England and the football is very good here. It’s a great team with young players, and that’s why I came here.”
The player brings a wealth of top-level experience with him to Merseyside, having already clinched several winners’ medals during his career so far, including the Premier League, the Champions League, three Serie A championships and an FA Cup.
