Casillas will be headed to FC Porto, which makes it even more likely that Real Madrid will land Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.
De Gea, who was United’s player of the season last term, has been constantly linked to a move to the Spanish club, as he has only one year remaining on his Man United contract and maintains interest in transferring to Bernabeu.
Casillas only had one year remaining on his contract with Real Madrid, and the La Liga giants will now look to recruit a younger model. Casillas is now 34 years old, while de Gea is only 24.
Real Madrid will be losing a goalie who played with them for 16 seasons, helping them win three Champions League titles and five La Liga championships.
Casillas also played a vital role in Spain’s 2010 FIFA World Cup title run.
