Corinthians midfielder moves for a fee believed to around £17m.
Tottenham have announced the signing of Brazil international Paulinho.
The midfielder is believed to have signed a five-year deal at White Hart Lane, with Spurs thought to be paying Corinthians around £17m for the 24-year-old.
Paulinho has been capped 17 times by Brazil and helped the Selcao to win the Confederations Cup this summer, scoring in both the group stage against Japan and in the semi-final against Uruguay to take his international goal tally to five.
The box-to-box midfielder, who has previously said he hopes to emulate Chelsea’s Frank Lampard, also scored against England in the 2-2 draw at the Maracana last month.
The box-to-box midfielder was reportedly attracting interest from Real Madrid but he becomes Tottenham’s first signing of the summer and it appears the appointment of new sporting director Franco Baldini is already paying dividends for the north London outfit.
Paulinho: “I am very happy and excited to have joined Spurs. It’s a huge pleasure for my career to be at a club as big as Tottenham.”
