Louis van Gaal is thought to be a huge fan of the Dutch playmaker, not to mention the fact that Sneijder was linked with a move to Old Trafford long before van Gaal arrived.
It seems United are set to miss out once again however, with the 30-year-old opting for a move back to Serie A rather than a switch to the Premier League.
Sneijder spent four years at the San Siro with Inter Milan, and is now set to join the long list of players who have controversially played for both teams.
The deal will likely only run until the end of the season, so the Red Devils could go back in for the Dutch international in the summer if they still view him as a necessary purchase.
