Feyenoord defender holding out for Old Trafford move.Feyenoord defender Stefan de Vrij has reportedly put talks with Serie A side Lazio on hold in the hope that he will be snapped up by his national team manager Louis van Gaal and brought to Manchester United this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 22-year-old had a good World Cup for the Netherlands to attract interest from a number of top clubs, and United’s search for a centre-back could still see them make a bid for the Dutchman in this transfer window.
New United boss Louis van Gaal is clearly a fan of the player, and will be boosted by his strong desire to join the Red Devils over any other club after he postponed talks over a move to another interested club in Lazio.
It is thought that the player has been assured that United are set to make a £10m bid for him, though the club have also been linked with Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen in that position, and it remains to be seen who their priority target will be as they chase replacements for Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
