The best in the West face the finest from the East in the NBA All-Star Game 2014, and it promises to be another high-scoring and high-quality encounter.
With Kevin Durant leading the way in the race for the MVP award this season, the Oklahoma City Thunder star will be eager to test himself against the best and further cement his place at the top of ladder after a stellar season thus far.
The 25-year-old has been in stunning form to lead his team to the top of the Western Conference, and he will likely be at the forefront of the show for the West.
As is usually the case, the Western roster is deep and full of scoring quality, and given the tendency for this to turn into an exhibition match of sort, if there is little defense played then the likes of Stephen Curry, James Harden and Damian Lillard will relish the prospect of shooting from range.
However, the East will look to counter that with their own scoring machines in LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, while they do perhaps enjoy a significant height advantage which will aid them on the boards.
With Roy Hibbert, Joakim Noah and other defensive stalwarts on the bench, it could be a case of restricting the West when they replace the starters, and ultimately that could have a huge bearing on which way this one goes.
Kobe Bryant is absent with injury, while Chris Paul looks set to feature after recently returning from a separated shoulder and Dwyane Wade will shake off his injury concern to start.
With the league’s best players on show in New Orleans, it promises to be a thrilling end to the weekend’s events, with coastal bragging rights ensuring that this will be a close game to call with many sub-plots and highlight reel moments guaranteed.
