Legendary free safety will become legendary free agent on Tuesday unless a deal can be struck.
To all NFL fans, seeing Ed Reed in a uniform other than a Baltimore Ravens one will just not look right. It’s safe to say that 95% of NFL fans are still struggling to accept Peyton Manning in a Denver Broncos jersey (apart from Denver fans, obviously).
However, it is becoming a distinct possibility that this scenario could come to pass, unless a deal is struck on Monday. If no deal is made, then any team is able to make an offer to the player to join their team immediately, just like the Bosman rule in football.
The chances of that deal being made is low, as Ed Reed told NFL.com that he has yet to speak to the team.
“I haven’t spoken to anyone. Hopefully that call comes soon,” Reed said.
The big rumour was that his next team could be the New England Patriots, something that the 12 year veteran was quick to answer.
“I’m a Raven. I plan on being a Raven. I couldn’t see me anywhere else right now,” Reed said.
“If it happens, I’m a football player. I can adapt to any situation.”
While it is likely that the Ravens will eventually strike a deal with Reed, it will be imperative that they get a deal done quickly and before off-season workouts begin in April.
If a team does pounce to sign him as a free agent, it would be no surprise to be Belichick, as he is already an admirer of the player, as seen in the below video of him and Tom Brady discussing how to beat the safety.
