Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that he believes heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua could be ready to face David Haye late next year.
The 24-year-old has made impressive strides in his professional career to date as he has picked up eight straight stoppage wins in just over a year.
Joshua continues his busy schedule this weekend at the O2 in London when he faces Russian Denis Bakhtov before taking on Michael Sprott on the undercard of Tony Bellew vs Nathan Cleverly on November 22 in Liverpool.
However, with Haye expected to end his absence from the ring in the coming months, Hearn has played up the possibility of the two British stars facing off in the not too distant future provided that Joshua continues on his current trajectory.
“In the world of boxing and particularly in this country, a fight between David Haye and Anthony Joshua in 2015 is a stadium event,” said Hearn, according to Sky Sports.
“It’s a huge, huge fight with massive potential and I think again the rate that Anthony is progressing – by the time the winter comes round in 2015 – these are the guys that Anthony is going to be facing.
“If he wants to win world titles, these are the guys he has got to demolish on the way and I’m sure that he will demolish these guys as well. I don’t think anything is going to stop him.”
Haye has suffered from injuries over the past two years as has had to pull out of fights with Tyson Fury as a result, but after overcoming a potentially career-threatening shoulder injury, he is busy making plans for the future and his comeback in the USA.
Meanwhile, David Price also stoked up talks of a possible bout with Joshua after insisting to reporters that Hearn would be “mad” to arrange a fight against him.
