Lambert rejected a £5 million move to Villa on deadline day in January according to The Daily Telegraph, instead electing to fight for his place at his boyhood love, Liverpool.

Admirable, romantic but ultimately foolish with the ex-Southampton man making next to no impact or improvement and surely sealing his fate of a premature end to his Anfield career.

The Villans could return for the striker in the summer though with new-boss Tim Sherwood replacing Paul Lambert in recent months, and their style of play clearly improving, it’s questionable whether a plodding, bruiser of a striker in Lambert would fit Sherwood’s fast-paced pass-and-move, attacking style.
