Whoever is selected in goal
Namely – one of Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Fraser Forster (Celtic) and John Ruddy (Norwich City).
With first choice custodian Joe Hart training with the England squad this week but set to be rested for the game against Denmark, Roy Hodgson must choose between Foster, Forster and Ruddy as next in line for the team.
Forster has just broken a Scottish record for most minutes without conceding a goal, but the league he plays in is a step down from the competition in the Barclays Premier League. His performances in the UEFA Champions League in recent seasons – particularly in matches against FC Barcelona – may stand him in good stead.
Foster and Ruddy play in the English top flight, which stands them in good stead, but both are involved in a relegation scrap, and let in close to 1.5 goals per game each. Forster is at the very least involved in a title defence in Scotland – one that is almost over – and his involvement in the top tier of European club competition may make him a worthwhile selection as Hart’s backup.
