Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)
At the beginning of the season, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers employed a 3-5-2 shape in order to allow him to select both Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez up front, without conceding the midfield.
When Sturridge fell to an ankle injury in November, Raheem Sterling was afforded a chance to impress, and he took it so emphatically that Rodgers elected to change his formation to incorporate the teenager into his attack.
Sterling has scored six times and provided three assists in the Barclays Premier League, and his tireless running and skill on the ball makes him the perfect replacement for the injured Theo Walcott this summer in Brazil.
Inexperience is the only negative in selecting him, with Sterling only having gained one cap at senior international level, and only UEFA Europa League experience rather than UEFA Champions League.
Having shone against the best defences in the Premier League though, he looks more than ready.
“Raheem was incredible,” said Rodgers after Sterling played a major role in Liverpool’s 5-1 demolition of Arsenal in February.
“He has just turned 19 and I don’t think there is a better winger in England at this moment in time.”
