Hobart Hurricanes have signed England international Alex Hales for the next Big Bash season.
The Hobart Hurricanes have signed English international T20 batsman Alex Hales for the 2014/15 Big Bash season.
Hales already has experience in Australia with both the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Renegades, and at this year’s World Cup became the first Englishman to score a T20 international century when he hit 116 off 64 balls against Sri Lanka.
Hobart Hurricanes coach Damien Wright said he was excited to have another world-class batsman in the line-up.
“Alex is a fantastic addition to our squad for out squad this season and our members and supporters will no doubt be thrilled to see him put on the purple this season.” Wright said.
Hales said he was delighted to join the Hurricanes and was full of praise for Wright.
“Damien has an excellent reputation as a coach and I am excited to be playing for one of the strongest teams in the Big Bash League,” said Hales.
“Hopefully I can contribute to the team going all the way this year after making the final last season.”
Hales becomes the Hurricanes’ ninth signing, with another eight domestic and one international contract to be finalised.
HURRICANES SQUAD SO FAR: Travis Birt, Cameron Boyce, Xavier Doherty, Evan Gulbis, Alex Hales, Ben Hilfenhaus, Joe Mennie, Sam Rainbird, Jon Wells.
