They have failed to drag the Three Lions into the 21st century with their tactics.
If anything, the side has regressed since Ashley Giles left the post in April 2014. They have gone from Champions Trophy finalists to World Cup disgraces in less than two years.
One of the major reasons why Giles left the team was because of the ECB’s refusal to let Kevin Pietersen play in the side. This inability to deal with big personalities and talents shows the failure of the pair in charge, even if the rumours that Morgan wanted the batsman in the side are true.
What’s more, this disappointment comes after the grand plan to move the Ashes in order to be extra prepared for the competition. This has massively backfired, not only losing the test series to Australia in the winter but also ending in this disastrous campaign. As such, the men in charge should take responsibility, in both the ECB and playing staff.
