The 29-year-old has been hoping for a call up to the England World Cup squad, but that could be in the balance depending on the outcome of this incident. The European player of the year was held by police for several hours in connection with an incident on 13 December.
After a Champions Cup match against Leicester a few Toulon players were celebrating at a Mourillion bar, and eye-witnesses have alleged that Armitage and teammate Xavier Chiocci were involved in a fight with another customer. A 30-year-old man suffered an eye injury on the night, but both Toulon players claim to have no recollection of what happened.
The England hopeful attended the police station voluntarily, and was neither arrested or charged. He will be hoping that this incident does not harm his chances of returning to the national team, for whom he has already made five appearances for.
