How we expect Hodgson to lineup the Three Lions.
After a spirited display against Italy on Saturday that eventually resulted in a 2-1 loss, England now need to beat Uruguay to have any chance of making the last-16 at the 2014 World Cup.
The South Americans also lost their Group D opener in somewhat shocking fashion to Costa Rica, succumbing to a 3-1 loss.
They were without talismanic Liverpool forward Luis Suarez for that match, but the 27-year-old is expected to be fit to face the English and Roy Hodgson will be wary of his talents.
So here is how we expect Hodgson to lineup the Three Lions to face the Uruguayans on Thursday.
GK – Joe Hart
Other than a few moments of erratic behaviour against the Italians the Manchester City No.1 was generally solid between the sticks once again.
RB – Glen Johnson
Many would probably call to drop Johnson after another woeful display at the weekend and Phil Jones will be waiting on the wings to take the place of the Liverpool right-back.
LB – Leighton Baines
Not as bad as Johnson it was still not a great World Cup debut for Baines and the 29-year-old Everton star will need to be a little sharper against Suarez and co.
CB – Gary Cahill
The Chelsea centre-back was perhaps at fault for Mario Balotelli’s winner, but the 28-year-old is still the best defensive player at the nation’s disposal.
CB – Phil Jagielka
There were doubts over the capabilities of the Toffees captain, but Jagielka played well on Saturday and will continue to start alongside Cahill.
