Durham star returns after recovering from self-inflicted injury.
Ben Stokes has been included in England’s 13-man squad for next Wednesday’s first Test against India at Trent Bridge.
The Durham all-rounder has not played for his country since breaking his wrist when punching a locker after losing his wicket in a T20 defeat to the West Indies in March.
That foolish incident threatened to overshadow what had been a very promising start to the 23-year-old’s international career, which included a maiden Test century in only his second appearance.
Stokes appears to be back to form as well as fitness. He took 10 wickets in a County Championship match against Sussex at the end of last month.
Captain Alastair Cook (Essex), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), James Anderson (Lancashire), Gary Ballance (Yorkshire), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Chris Jordan (Sussex), Liam Plunkett (Yorkshire), Matt Prior (Sussex), Sam Robson (Middlesex), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Ben Stokes (Durham), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire).
