Hodgson gives places to three uncapped youngsters.
England manager Roy Hodgson has made a few brave calls for the nation’s 25-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Moldova and Ukraine.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Andros Townsend, Raheem Sterling of Liverpool and Everton starlet Ross Barkley have all been named despite having one cap between them (Sterling) and a combined age of just 59.
However, there is no place for Manchester United’s Wilfried Zaha who has been dropped back down to the under-21s squad.
The Three Lions will play Moldova at Wembley on September 6 before traveling to Ukraine for their second qualifying match of the month four days later.
England currently trail Montenegro in Group H of the World Cup qualification tables for Europe, although Hodgson’s side do have a game in hand and know that if they win their remaining four matches the nation will book an automatic place in Brazil.
The full squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Celtic), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich City).
Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).
Midfielders: Ross Barkley (Everton), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).
Forwards: Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur), Rickie Lambert (Southampton), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool).
