13. Jack Wilshere
Like Gerrard, Jack Wilshere has plenty of heart.
The Arsenal midfielder is a fearless and tenacious competitor capable of carrying the ball forward impressively, but his one-footedness is a hindrance and a tendency to release the ball a tad late results in regular fouls and – inevitably – the odd injury. This too means that Wilshere spends rather too much time prone on the ground complaining to the referee, and prompts something of a ‘boy who cried wolf syndrome’ we’ve just invented.
Wilshere’s place in both the England and Arsenal team is currently under threat, but that will likely only serve as a motivation for the Gunners midfielder for the remainder of the season. We wouldn’t bet against him winning his place back in both sides to become a crucial part of each starting XI.
