20. Daniel Welbeck
Danny Welbeck missed a number of clear cut opportunities against Poland, earning some rather unflattering comparisons to the impressively profligate Emile Heskey amongst the more unkind Twitter audience.
However, 38 goals across all top level competitions at the age of 22 is an impressive tally, and the Manchester United forward’s movement remains brilliant.
Welbeck is clearly getting into the right positions, and with work, a growing percentage of those missed chances will turn into goals. Regardless, the 22 year-old is alarmingly prolific for his country anyway.
Eight goals in 20 caps is a very creditable tally, and Welbeck’s versatility in being able to play both on the left and leading the line could be a boon to Roy Hodgson’s plans to field a fluid strikeforce.
