7. Phil Jones
Phil Jones’ debut for Blackburn Rovers in March 2011 was absurdly good. The then teenager was tasked with the marking of Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, and found his team down 1-0 in the first five minutes, but recovered excellently to dominate Drogba for the remainder of the match.
He won 12 of his 14 attempted tackles, 11 clearances, and gave a markedly mature performance for an 18 year-old against one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League.
Since then, he’s become somewhat unfairly known as a jack of all trades, master of none, thanks to solid performances at right back (against Montenegro away in the last qualification campaign) and in defensive midfield (shackling Xavi, Iniesta and Silva in a 1-0 victory over Spain).
Having said all that, he’d likely travel to Brazil as a utility man.
