8. Chris Smalling
Chris Smalling is not an international quality right back based on his performance against Poland, but offers height and pace as a backup centre back should either Cahill or Jagielka get injured.
The hope for both Manchester United and England is that Smalling can forge a strong partnership with Jones in central defence for both club and country. At present, that feels some way off, but both men will prove useful in Brazil, and with the pair of them both capable in the role of full back, a second specialist in that position will not be needed. Kyle Walker can remain at home.
