Hodgson opts for Lallana and Rodriguez.
Southampton duo Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana are the surprise inclusions in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the friendlies against Chile and Germany at Wembley Stadium on November 15 and 19 respectively.
The pair have been influential in Saints’ fine start to the season and both could win their first caps and stake a claim for a place on the plane to Brazil next summer.
Hodgson has also opted for three left backs, with Leighton Baines and Ashley Cole joined by Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs, while Glen Johnson returns after missing last month’s World Cup qualifiers through injury.
Rickie Lambert also keeps his place in the squad, meaning Southampton have three players represented, while Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge and Jack Wilshere are all fit enough for inclusion.
