It’s not the first time the Test legend has made a 5-0 prediction, and he has embarrassed himself when the Australian side has not performed to expectations – most notably in 2005.
McGrath played a starring role in Australia 5-0 win in 2006/07 and went on to predict the same result in 2009 in England.
He was left eating his words after Andrew Strauss led his side to a series victory.
However, with England going into this year’s series on the back of a disastrous World Cup campaign, McGrath has predicted a 5-0 drubbing to his home nation.
“If the Australian team keeps playing as they are, they’re going to go to England full of confidence,” he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
“I can’t see England beating them and I’m more than happy to predict 5-0.”
“I thought they (England) struggled to take wickets or build up any pressure and they didn’t look potent at all (throughout the World Cup).
“There are going to be changes, whether it’s coaching or the players. “A lot of responsibility lies with the players.”
The Ashes series begins on Wednesday July 8 in Cardiff.
