Manchester United man likely to partner Gerrard at CM.
England boss Roy Hodgson is expected to drop Frank Lampard in favour of Michael Carrick for Friday’s crunch World Cup qualifier against Poland, according to the Daily Mail.
The Manchester United midfielder, 31, will line-up in a holding midfielder role, allowing skipper Steven Gerrard the freedom to push forward.
Hodgson and his backroom staff were reportedly impressed with Carrick’s performance in United’s 2-1 win at Sunderland and his cameo after he replaced Lampard in England’s 3-0 victory over Montenegro on Friday.
The Three Lions are again expected to line up with a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Andros Townsend expected to be passed fit after suffering a knock and Phil Jones set to replace the suspended Kyle Walker at right back.
