Young Lions are already on the plane home from Israel.
England Under-21 international Danny Rose has admitted that the team’s recent European Championship campaign in Israel was “embarrassing”, reports the Daily Mail.
Stuart Pearce’s side have already exited the tournament at the group stage having lost all three of their encounters against hosts Israel, Norway and Italy, with the side scoring only the one goal in those thrio of contests, and even that was from the penalty spot.
As a result, the head coach has come in for some stinging criticism from the English press of late, with there now being serious doubts as to whether the former England international captain will be offered a new deal to carry on in his role beyond the summer by The Football Association.
However, the Tottenham Hotspur utility player, who has made 29 appearances for the U21s since making his debut in 2009, scoring three goals in the process, has given Pearce his full support and says that it is the players who should be shouldering the responsibility rather than the manager.
“Have we let him down? Definitely,” said Rose. “He has put his trust in a lot of players, especially me. We don’t know if (Tuesday) was his last game, so to not win or get a point is a real let down for him.
“That’s what we have done (let him down). We haven’t performed as well as we could have done and certainly never played as we did in qualifying. I know the players have been getting stick but I would like to think that we are all in it together.
“We were when we were winning, so we should all be together when we are losing. It is very disappointing and embarrassing, really. It is hard to put a finger on what has happened. The preparation was second to none.”
