England has lost four of its five Pool A matches in Australia and New Zealand and Monday’s defeat to Bangladesh will go down as being one of the darkest points in English cricket.
The former Ireland international is now under a serious amount of pressure to relinquish the role despite only being handed the captaincy following Alastair Cook’s axing in November.
Morgan failed yet again failed to score with the bat against Bangladesh, but said he intended to hold onto the captaincy.
“Oh, certainly, at the moment I haven’t thought a great deal about it because obviously this comes as a big surprise. But yeah, certainly I’ve enjoyed the captaincy,” Morgan is quoted as saying by The Canberra Times.
“I certainly want to play one-day cricket. Still inspired to play test cricket. The captaincy is something I’ve enjoyed.
“Working with (coach) Peter (Moores) has been brilliant. I’ve learnt a lot from him and a lot about myself working with the team.”
Morgan has made four ducks in his past eight one-day internationals.
