Ernests Gulbis has told an Italian newspaper that he blew all his French Open winnings at a Latvian casino.
Latvian tennis player Ernests Gulbis reached his first ever Grand Slam semi-final last week, and didn’t he celebrate it in style.
Gulbis told Italian newspaper Gazzetto dello Sport that he blew all of his $USD557k winnings at a Latvian casino in one night.
“After losing to Djokovic I returned to Latvia with my cousin and I went to a casino,” Gulbis explained.
“I bet all my prize money in Paris and lost it.”
Gulbis said in a more recent interview (seen below) that he gambled a “percentage” of his winnings, so who knows how much he really did lose.
The 25-year-old is known as one of the great mavericks of the tour, and if he really did blow all his winnings, it won’t come as too much of a surprise.
