The Barcelona-based side’s prized goalkeeper is wanted at the Emirates, but manager Javier Aguirre is determined to hold on to him.
Arsenal are after Epanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, but manager Javier Aguirre has warned them that they will not let the stopper go without a fight.
Speaking ahead of his side’s match against Valencia CF, Aguirre told Marca, “Casilla cannot go, no. I predict there being some involvement [from Arsenal] but I don’t think he will go, although it is very tempting.”
Arsenal have publicly been on the hunt for a goalkeeper for some time now. Prior to Casilla they were turned down by Valencia CF after their bid for Vicente Guaita was deemed massively below valuation and instantly rejected.
Whilst incumbent ‘keeper Wojciech Szczesny is still regarded as a good player by most Arsenal fans, he has conceded in both of Arsenal’s league games so far this season and would almost certainly benefit from more competition within the squad.
Arsenal fans should not feel too disheartened over Casilla yet though. Whilst Valencia may have outright turned down Arsenal, they can boast an excellent recent history and European football. Espanyol on the other hand finished 13th in La Liga last season and have won just one trophy in the last 13 years. Arsenal would be a notable step up for Casilla – should he wish to leave, Espanyol may struggle to convince him otherwise.
