Everton are close to finalising a deal for AS Monaco striker Lacina Traore after announcing that they have applied for a work permit.
Traore only moved to the Ligue 1 club from Anzhi Makhachkala on January 4th, but coach Claudio Ranieri clearly wants him to gain first team experience in the Barclays Premier League.
That is made slightly more difficult by the UK laws around work permits, with the 6’8″ Cote d’Ivoire international having only gained seven caps for his country.
With all of those appearances coming since 2012, and four goals in those seven matches, Everton will be hopeful of at least the special talent ruling allowing the 23 year-old to move to Goodison Park.
“Lacina is a player that we are very interested in,” said manager Roberto Martinez after Everton’s draw with West Bromwich Albion in the Barclays Premier League.
“We need to get over that (work permit) hurdle first and then if we can get through that it will be a good addition to the squad.”
