Fiorentina have joined the race for the talented 21-year-old playmaker…
Everton will have to battle Italian club Fiorentina for the signature of Brazilian born Jorginho, reports the Daily Star.
The 21-year-old currently plies his trade at Italian minnows Verona, but played a huge part in them winning promotion to Serie A last season. He has already made 74 league appearances for the side, which has earned him a cap for Italian Under-21 side.
Last week Everton lodged a £7.8m bid for the attacking midfielder, which was thought to be enough to beat off interest from city-rivals Liverpool who had also been credited with an interest.
Fiorentina’s interest however puts a spanner in the works for the Toffees. New manager Roberto Martinez was hoping to add to the four summer signings he’s made so far, and Jorginho would inject some much needed class and creativity into Everton’s final third.
The youngster is diminutive and slight, but has excellent close ball control and is comfortable interlinking play with short precise passes.
Everton have already signed Arouna Kone, Antolin Alcaraz and Joel Robles, and have added the impressive Gerard Deulofeu on loan from Barcelona. Everton fans will hope Jorginho isn’t seen as a direct replacement for Marouane Fellaini though, who has been linked heavily with Manchester United in recent days.
