The Toffees will beat Merseyside rivals Everton to Toby Alderwiereld’s signature…
Everton are looking to wrap up a £5m deal to bring Ajax’s Belgian stopper Toby Alderwiereld to Goodison Park, reports the Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old can play at either centre-back or right-back, and has been the subject of interest from a range of clubs around Europe and the Premier League this summer, including Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool and Norwich.
With just one year left on his contract, Everton could snap up the talented defender for just £5m, which many would consider a bargain for the 24-cap international.
Alderwiereld’s father has said that his son would be happy to join a club of Everton’s standing.
“We have heard from various sources that Everton are interested in Toby,” he said.
“Officially, there has not been any contact yet, but any English team of a certain stature would certainly be interesting for Toby.
“He has two possibilities at the moment. He could sign a new contract with Ajax, or he could move to a bigger team in a bigger league,” he added.
Everton have already snapped up Arouna Kone and Antolin Alcaraz from new manager Roberto Martinez’s old side Everton, and done brilliantly to secure Barcelona wonderkid Gerard Deulofeu on lone for the year.
Alderwiereld would likely start alongside England man Phil Jagielka, in what would like like an impressive Everton defence for the coming season – especially with Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman filling the fullback berths.
