Chelsea have reportedly made an improved bid for Everton defender John Stones for £30m.
However, Everton are understood to be ready to reject the Blues’ latest bid, according to the Daily Mail.
This will not be the end of the John Stones transfer saga though, as Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly given Jose Mourinho permission to break the bank for the 21-year-old.
Although Everton boss Roberto Martinez has essentially refused to sell Chelsea’s top target, its is expected a bid over £35m will turn the heads of the Toffees’ top brass.
This would mark a British transfer record fee for a defender, but even that may not be enough to make Martinez budge.
Mourinho is keen to bolster his defence before the close of the transfer window after a less than impressive start to the season.
The Blues are coming off a humbling 3-0 loss to Manchester City, which would have been even worse if not for a series of brilliant saves from goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
