Everton winger Kevin Mirallas has admitted he thought he would be sent off for the horror tackle on Liverpool’s Luis Suarez during the Merseyside derby at the weekend.
The Belgian winger went in knee high on Suarez, but somehow only picked up a booking for the nasty tackle.
“Sometimes when you put a tackle in you think ‘oh s***’, – like this one,” Mirallas said, as reported by Goal.
“When I made the challenge the first thing I thought was that it was going to be a red card,” the Belgian winger continued.
With eleven men still on the field, Everton went on to take a 3-2 lead against their bitter rivals, only to concede a very late equaliser to a Daniel Sturridge header.
Mirallas has apologised to Liverpool’s Uruguayan striker however, who luckily managed to shake off the knock and continue playing.
“I was genuinely going for the ball but I know I caught him on the knee and I said sorry straight away,” Mirallas added.
“I might have been okay because it was the derby, because in those matches there is always a lot of contact, a lot of tackles going in. There is a lot of pressure on the players and the fans in these sort of games.”
