Barcelona have confirmed that Thomas Vermaelen will not be making a return to the Premier League, despite a disastrous first season at the Nou Camp, reports Caught Offside.

The Belgian defender has been plagued by injuries since moving to La Liga, with his latest setback looking likely to keep him out until March.
After his latest injury rumours emerged that he might be shipped straight back to the Premier League, with Barcelona ready to cut their losses already.
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has announced that the club have no intention of offloading the former Arsenal star however, and plan to stick by him through his injury.
“All signings are made by the technical team, and Vermaelen was a collective decision,” he said.
“He has undeniable quality. He will play again at the end of the season, and he will bring a lot in the following years. He is a great player and will help the defence a lot.”
