A £17 million disappointment at Stamford Bridge, Romelu Lukaku has nearly 100 goals in the last seven years.
Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has recorded 42 goals over the last three seasons and is confident that he can be a top striker in the Premier League – better than Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero too.
In an interview reported by the Metro, the former Chelsea flop said that now that the injury problems that slowed him down in the 2014-15 season are all healed, he can make headway as one of the best Premier League scorers.
Asked if he can become the best in the league, the 22-year-old Lukaku replied, “Yes, yes.”
‘There are some aspects in my game where I have the potential,” Romelu Lukaku said. “I have that but it has to come out. If you want to be one of the best you have to look at the best. For me at the moment that’s men like Diego Costa and (Sergio) Aguero.
“Costa because he has that combative nature. He terrorises defences just with the look in the opponents’ eye you know he’s there.
“With Aguero he can run in behind, come to feet, hold the ball, dribble past a few players. That is what I like. You have to look at these players and compare yourself.”
Chelsea signed the Belgian striker for £17 million back in 2011 but was used mostly as a sub and played in just 15 matches in three seasons. Lukaku was loaned out to WBA in 2012 and Everton in 2013 before being sold to the Toffees for a club-record £28 million in 2014.
Lukaku rewarded the Toffees for their confidence in him with 10 Premier League goals and eight goals in the 2014-15 UEFA Europa League tournament (tied with Alan Carvalho for the most in the tournament) before Everton was eliminated in the Round of 16.
