The 33-year-old was at Anfield for three seasons, mainly as a backup player after struggles with injuries, and admits it would be a dream to knock out the Reds en route to winning the trophy again.
Cole’s success in this competition came during his time with Chelsea, when he lifted the trophy in 2007, 2009 and as part of a Premier League and FA Cup double in the 2009/10 season.
Villa will no doubt be major underdogs in this game after a difficult season fighting against relegation in the league, and Cole admits it would be a terrific achievement if they did somehow go on to win the tournament, beating a big name like Liverpool along the way.
Speaking about the prospect of beating the Reds on his way to picking up the trophy again, the former England international told The Sun: “That would be a dream. After the Champions League it is the biggest cup competition in the world. It has such prestige worldwide.
“It would be a massive achievement and we are just two games away. We still want to secure our league future, but how can you not get excited?”
