Italian club Catania’s right-back Gino Peruzzi, who has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal, has taken the fizz out of the Gunners’ interest by stating that he has not been approached by any official from the North London club, reports the Metro.
Peruzzi though admitted that he knew of reports conveying Arsenal’s interest and was quoted saying in the Metro, “I heard about the interest of Arsenal, but the club has not told me anything. I am calm and I think I will stay. I am just thinking of Catania and I really want to bring the team back into Serie A.”
Arsenal had been linked with a move for Peruzzi recently, but the rumours have slowly died down as the Gunners have inched closer to signing 19-year old Southampton right-back Calum Chambers. Wenger might now feel that he has enough options in the right-back position, and therefore the Peruzzi rumours are likely to die down soon.
The Gunners could now move on to strengthening their holding midfield position for which they desperately need a specialist enforcer, while Wenger could also consider a move for a centre-back as his skipper Thomas Vermaelen looks set to leave the Emirates this summer.
