The two-time world champion’s contract with the German outfit expires at the end of the current season, but the Briton has yet to put pen-to-paper on a deal reportedly worth £27 million per season.
Sky Sports report that a deal was agreed in principle two weeks ago, however Hamilton says the complexity of the deal is prolonging the inevitable.
“I think it is unlikely,” Hamilton told Sky Sports.
“Obviously at the last race I said it would be done within a week, this is my first time negotiating myself and you don’t know how many times I’ve had to read about 80 pages — it is so much reading and it is all in lawyer jargon. So it has been a quite a pain in the backside to be honest.”
Hamilton scoffed at rumours he was considering a switch to join Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari, and expects a deal to be completed before the end of the 2015 season.
The 30-year-old leads the 2015 world championship after two races, with the Mercedes’ looking well on track to battle for both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships yet again.
